How to Replace 2009 Corolla Door Speakers

Toyota completely redesigned the Corolla in the 2009 model year, which launched the 10th generation for the popular compact vehicle. This new body style was far and away the most beautiful to date and bore a striking resemblance to its big brother, the Camry. The 2009 Corolla came standard with an AM-FM audio system that featured a CD-player and four speakers. Replacing the door-mounted speakers on the base level 2009 Corolla is a straightforward task that involves removing the door panel.

Step 1

Slide a window crank removal tool behind the window crank, so the tool is parallel with the crank’s arm. Press the tool inward until you feel it contact the U-shaped metal clip securing the handle. Press the tool inward sharply to disengage the clip. Catch the clip as it falls, if needed. Pull the window crank from the regulator’s input shaft. Line up the U-shaped clip with the slot in the crank, with the clip’s open end facing the crank’s arm, and press the clip into the slot until it snaps into place.

Step 2

Pry out the top, bottom and rearmost parts of the inside door handle bezel, using a flat-head screwdriver, to disengage the three retaining tabs. Remove the door handle bezel from the door handle assembly. Remove the door handle assembly screw, using a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 3

Lift upward around the perimeter of the upper armrest bezel, the trim panel on top of the armrest, using a flat-head screwdriver, to unfasten its retaining clips, but do not pry upward on the front-most part of the bezel. Slide the bezel rearward to disengage the retaining tab on the front of the bezel and remove it from the vehicle.

Step 4

Remove the circular screw cover from inside the upper armrest bezel cutout in the door panel by prying it out with a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the screw in the bezel’s cutout, using a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 5

Unfasten the 10 door panel retaining clips by prying around the perimeter of the door panel with a trim stick. Pull outward on the door panel slightly and lift it upward to free it from the door’s upper retaining clips. Remove the door panel from the door, exposing the door speaker.
